Jim Kazanjian :: Manipulations

A little info cited from his Website : "
Jim Kazanjian received his MFA from the Art Center College of Design in '92. His BFA was completed at the Kansas City Art Institute in '90. He has worked professionally as a commercial CGI artist for the past 18 years in television and game production. Various clients he has collaborated with include: Nike, Adidas, NBC, CBS, HBO, NASA, HP, Intel and others. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon."

I would describe Kazanjian's work as complex industrialism. It has a dark symmetry to the 'developed' western world. Many of the images, can be interpreted with social-economic ideas. Such as the image below could represent a rich upper class lifestyle that has weak foundations because of its dependence on an unstable stock market.

Kazanjian uses images from the internet to create his seamless photo-collages, with around 30 separated images being spliced together. He doesn't use a camera at any point, and relies on Photoshop to create his derelict and bizarre constructions.

His work has been inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and 'weird' fiction writers. he likes to
"un-familiarize the familiar" and creates a world that has a stable chaotic look with gloom and grit.

How long has it been?

Well it certainly has been a while since i uploaded anything to the internet.
just haven't found the energy to do anything till now.
not big finished thing, just a sketch.
small steps aye aye.

Thoughts : Getting In The Zone

Sometimes its hard to get into an inspired mood. To get motivated to do something..

A good way to get jogging I've found is to become hideously focused on the senses involved.
Almost like a warm up before whatever. so with drawing. I would spend the times, when i'm walking back from work, analyzing all the shapes, shades, colours and structures. and pretty much ignore everything else. The same with wanting to get into the audio 'zone' with music.

Another thought : at least once a day find everything really interesting. look at objects like you've never seen them before. Because nothing is boring when you get in the right mindset.
